UFC San Diego puts the promotion back on the road in Southern California. UFC San Diego will take place on Saturday August 13th, 2022. The event will be held in the Pechanga Arena. The 13 fight card will see the first fighters make the walk at 4PM EST. We get an afternoon start on the east coast and day time start on the west coast. The card is headlined with a bantamweight main event. We will see Marlon Vera try to inject himself into the title picture, while long time veteran Dominick Cruz will look to return to said title picture.
Although this is a Fight Night, it will not be taking place in the Apex. With that being the case, the normal sized octagon will be used. That octagon is comparatively larger than the one at the Apex and tends to favor fighters that prefer range or a lower degree of engagement.

Quick Look Back
Last week’s UFC Vegas 59 card was a successful one for the second consecutive week. We are officially back on a streak after a slump stretching a handful of cards. We had three bets last week. The lone loser was our one underdog. I gave the takedown defense of Augusto Sakai far too much credit. He was taken down often with trips by Sergei Spivac and mat returned when he got up. There was a third round stoppage which was questionable as Sakai was taking little damage. However all that did was take away our Hail Mary finish chance at the end of the fight.
Our two winners were both ITD bets on strikers that had their way. There was little sweat on our first bet, Michal Oleksiejczuk. He put it on Sam Alvey from the opening seconds and scored a pair of knockdowns en route to a first round knockout. Middleweight will be the correct weight class for Oleksiekczuk.
Our last bet of the night was another winner on the main event. We had Jamahal Hill ITD over Thiago Santos. Hill showed off his striking, durability and takedown defense. Santos put on a wrestling heavy game plan as was required. The striking went Hill’s way and he had to take some time to let Santos burn out his gas tank with wrestling attempts. That took until early in the fourth round when Hill began to put it on and drop ground and pound on Santos until the ref intervened. We will look to another successful UFC San Diego card.
UFC San Diego Fight Card
The best things we can say about UFC San Diego are that it has a solid main event and that there will be live fans. The remaining fights are going to bring entertainment and a good deal of finishes, but they do lack star power.
Main Event
We touched on the Marlon “Chito” Vera vs Dominick Cruz bantamweight main event. This should be a great one, and one that I think gives us a good deal of fight time. We will have a wager on this fight so much more on this one in a bit.
Co-Main Event
Our co-main event is at featherweight between David Onama and Nate Landwehr. David Onama is set as a -270 favorite and the fight is -225 to end inside the distance.
Onama has a very sound skill set, and does bring quite an attainable ceiling with him. He has won two straight since a debut loss to Mason Jones. He is quick, dangerous, and well rounded, but does have deficiencies in his striking defense. We’ve seen Onama eat shots and that could repeat itself in this fight. I do believe Onama dishes out more than he eats, but it is an area of concern.
Nate Landwehr has alternated loss to win in his first four UFC appearances. His most recent was against Ludovit Klein, which has aged well. Since that fight, Klein has notched wins over Devonte Smith and Mason Jones. Landwehr is a pressure striker that will occasionally mix in a takedown, but should be considered a striker. He moves forward but is also quite hittable, and by power shots. We have seen him knocked out twice in the UFC.
In what is likely a race to see which fighter leaves their chin exposed first, I do lean towards the
favorite in Onama. Landwehr is live in this fight however. If you feel a need for action on this co-main event, the best bet is probably for the fight to end inside the distance at -225. There is some value on that line.
Remainder Of UFC San Diego Fight Card
The remainder of the card does not feature household names, but it does have close fights, and should bring a plethora of finishes. I don’t know that we will see another card where every fight ends via finish like last week, but we will see a bunch. Of the other 11 fights, eight are expected to end inside the distance by betting line. Two of the three that are not have +120 and +140 on the fight ITD line. Strap in for some finishes.
UFC San Diego Bet Sheet
UFC Sand Diego is not a card where we are long on action. Our only dedicated bet will be our underdog in the main event. With the shortage of official plays, I will offer some additional leans below if you are looking for more action.

Additional UFC San Diego Betting Leans
Devin Clark comes back down to light heavyweight after a heavyweight fight. He will take on Azamat Murzakanov with Murzakanov being favored at -160. Murzakanov is not high volume and does not bring the greatest gas tank. What he does bring is huge KO power and I think the most likely outcome of this fight is a KO win. Murzakanov also has a wrestling skill set which could shut down the shots of Clark. The +120 ITD line on Murzkanov is attractive enough.
Martin Buday is a -255 favorite in his heavyweight fight with Lukasz Brzeksi. Buday is going to be the more powerful and dangerous fighter with a superior gas tank. The gas tank or lack thereof for Brzeski is the most notable aspect of this fight. Buday ITD -110 brings sound value.
Prisicilla Cachoeira and Ariane Lipski will fight at bantamweight in a rescheduled bout. The normal flyweights had their original date postponed after Lipski fell ill following weigh ins. Lipski remains a -195 favorite, and I think Cachoeira is quite live as a dog. Cachoiera will force a fire fight and I lean towards the fighter that prefers that type of fight against a fighter that had medical complications just two weeks ago.
