UFC Long Island is a very high end Fight Night Card. UFC Long Island takes place on Saturday July 16th, 2022 at the UBS arena. Note that there is a very early start time for this card. The first fighters will make the walk at 11AM EST. The card is scheduled for 12 fights, and is extremely well made. There is intrigue on the card from top to bottom, punctuated with an awesome featherweight main event. Brian Ortega takes on Yair Rodriguez to close out the card.
Note that even though UFC Long Island is a Fight Night card, it is not taking place at the UFC Apex. The normal size octagon will be used and not the smaller version in the Apex.

Quick Look Back
We had a rough couple weeks in a row, but I could almost feel that coming with the bad card last week. It is the reason I kept it to two plays. After starting the year with months of winning, we ran into a couple week lull. We then bounced back before the last two bad weeks. This live televised Fight Night card will be where we bounce back again. Before moving on, let’s look at our two losses from last week.
Our first play of the night was on Jamie Mullarkey to win ITD against Michael Johnson. I suspected Mullarkey would initiate more grappling, ultimately leading to clinch work that would wear Johnson down. Mullarkey expressed that was the game plan after the fight, but admitted he fell into the slug fest, leading to a highly entertaining split decision win. He did get the nod, but much like Sean Strickland the week before, abandoned the game plan and lead to a loss. The second loss was on RDA in the main event. Fiziev fended off the takedowns early in the fight as expected. He did become noticeably tired, but unlike the Bobby Green fight, he fought through it. He ultimately defended 14 of 16 takedown attempts, which was wildly impressive to me. We never truly saw RDA get to work on the floor, which brings no surprise Fiziev notched the win.
UFC Long Island Fight Card
UFC Long Island is televised nationally on ABC, and they put together a really fun card for that spotlight. From the early portions starting at 11AM EST all the way through the main event, each fight is intriguing and there are some extremely fun matchups throughout.
Main Event
We have an awesome featherweight main event this week. Two time title challenger Brian Ortega looks to work his way back to that standing. He welcomes Yair Rodriguez, who we have seen in fun main events before. Ortega is set as a -170 favorite. We will have a wager on this fight so much more on this one later.
Co-Main Event
The co-main event is in the women’s strawweight division. Michelle Waterson is a staple in the division, and has had main events before. She will take on Amanda Lemos who will be fighting in the spotlight for the time. Lemos is a -340 favorite in this spot.
Both Amanda Lemos and Michelle Waterson return to a featured bout after both lost a main event spot in their most recent respective fights. Waterson lost a runaway decision to Marina Rodriguez while Amanda Lemos got caught in an early standing arm triangle by powerhouse Jessica Andrade.
We will see Waterson try to earn a decision win, as is her style. She has very little finishing upside and will need to win in the judge’s eyes. That will entail getting the fight to the mat, and I believe Waterson will have real difficulty with that. She will not be able to land traditional takedowns and throws will be problematic against the much bigger and stronger Amanda Lemos.
Lemos is a very powerful striker and extremely physically imposing at 115. It does not take much volume for her to pour on the damage. It will not take long for Waterson to realize she has very few options to find success in this matchup. The power of Lemos will make Waterson hesitant and stuffing grappling attempts will render Waterson to hesitant to even engage. I nearly made Lemos an ITD play at +200 as she will be dominant in this matchup. The thing that stopped me from pulling the trigger is Waterson’s propensity for getting to the scorecards.
Remainder Of UFC Long Island Fight Card
The main event and co-main event are far from the only attractions on this fight card. Starting with the remainder of the main card, there are plenty of other reasons to tune in. The Miesha Tate vs Lauren Murphy bout is rescheduled for the second time. It is interesting it was good enough for pay per view main card placement the last time but has five fights after it this time around. Right after that fight we will see Shane Burgos and Charles Jourdain in what will be an amazing affair full of violence.
The prelims bring a higher amount of intrigue than we can usually expect. There is a conspicuously placed fight that no one would bat an eye at if it were this card’s co-main event. That is Jack Shore against Ricky Simon. Both of these fighters have ceilings, especially Shore, and this will be a fun grappling heavy scrap. We will also see Puna Soriano and Dalcha Lungiambula try to take the heads off each other. Bill Algeo and Gilbert Burns meet in a high level BJJ matchup.
UFC Long Island Bet Sheet
We are back to a sheet full of action for UFC Long Island. We will have four bets on the 12 fight card. One of which will be an ITD wager coming at a plus figure on a significant favorite. The other three will be flat bets on favorites that bring real value on their respective price tags.
