Petr Yan vs Cory Sandhagen Betting Preview
Petr Yan already held the bantamweight title, but lost it in, well, stupid fashion after landing an illegal knee on Aljamain Sterling. Sterling is now injured so Sandhagen and Yan will decide who gets interim belt and who faces Sterling upon his return.
Sandhagen is a very long and great striker. He has some grappling chops as well, but that is certainly not the strength of his game. In fact, the one time Sandhagen has been finished in his career was by making a grappling mistake and being submitted by Sterling. He has never been knocked out and is very durable. His range, height and volume are truly going to give Yan problems. Sandhagen fights long, knows how to keep range and the 4” of height and 3” of reach are going to be a big advantage in this fight. He will be the busier striker and will be able to frustrate the boxer.

Yan has very crisp and sharp boxing, and very much prefers to fight on the inside. This is where Sandhagen is going to give Yan a lot of problems, simply in not being available to be hit. Yan will have a power edge in the hands so Sandhagen will need to be careful and to keep his movement in a constant state. While Yan does have the power in his hands, that does not mean Sandhagen is any less dynamic. Sandhagen is able to use big knees and kicks and has finished high end opponents in that fashion already. I simply do not see the striking going Yan’s way in this one, and think he may be forced to wrestle. Even if he does have success in completing takedowns, I do not believe he will be able to control Sandhagen and the fight will return to the standup.
Sandhagen is the best underdog value on this card, and a +190 price tag to cover all methods of victory is very attractive. I truly believe this fight should be in the pickem neighborhood with Sandhagen perhaps even being a slight favorite. The current line is dripping with value for the underdog, and he will be a flat play.
