This weekend we have a UFC Fight Night card from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The main event of that card is between Edson Barboza and Lerone Murphy, as Murphy looks to stay undefeated while Barboza looks to keep rolling after a recent hot streak. Here, we give you our UFC best bets for Barboza vs Murphy as they get set to close out the show in Vegas this weekend.
Edson Barboza
Edson Barboza is fighting for the first time in 2024 this weekend. After losing two straight fights going into 2023, Barboza went 2-0 in 2023, beating Billy Quarantillo by knockout and Sodiq Yusuff by decision. Here, he will look for a third win in a row, which could move him back into the top-10 in the UFC’s featherweight rankings.
For Barboza to get a win here, he is going to need to neutralize the knockout power of Murphy in this Barboza vs Murphy main event. The Brit has earned seven of his 13 career wins by knockout, winning the rest by decision. As long as Barboza can avoid being knocked out in this fight, he has a real chance to come away with a win that would be huge in the continued resurrection of Barboza’s career.
Lerone Murphy
Lerone Murphy is in an interesting spot going into Saturday night’s main event. He is 13-0-1 in his MMA career, including a 5-0-1 mark in UFC. But Murphy is not yet in the top-15 in the featherweight rankings going into this weekend. He will look to change that with a victory in this main event clash with Edson Barboza, while looking to stay undefeated in the process.
There are a couple of question marks that Murphy will have to address in order to win this fight. First, he has yet to face an opponent on the level of Barboza. Second, he has yet to main event a UFC card and this will be his first fight with the potential to go five rounds. Either of those things could trip him up in the biggest fight of his career to date.
