Deiveson Figueiredo vs Brandon Moreno Fight Preview
To get a full grasp on what to expect in the fourth fight, we need to explore the first three fights. The first fight was a majority draw. Figueiredo was the better fighter on the night, but a point deduction in the third round lead to a draw. Even with that deduction, one of the judges cards read 48-46 for him. The majority of media members scored that fight for Deiveson as well. The draw lead to a rematch, but the expectation after seeing the first iteration was that Figueiredo was the better of the two elite flyweights.
The second fight was totally different however. It is the worst Figueiredo looked in the cage in many years, if ever. He was handily out struck, taken down and finished inside of two rounds. Moreno was dominant on the night, there is no denying that. With that said, the outcome was due to an off night for Figueiredo and not some massive leap from Moreno.
The third fight produced the best version of Figueiredo to date. He moved gyms and the training with Henry Cejudo clearly set him apart as the superior fighter. He had a new found feel for range, and used that to win the striking battle. While he gave up a tick on the volume side, he scored three knockdowns in the fight and was clearly the more damaging fighter. He was also only taken down once and controlled for just 46 seconds over 25 minutes.
The third fight saw Figueiredo use range management and his own takedown attempts to notch a fairly clear win. The vast majority of media scorecards read either 48-47 or 49-46 Figueiredo. Anyone scoring that fight for Moreno was not being remotely objective.
Now with the fourth installment happening in Brazil, we are going to get a repeat of the most recent fight. Figueiredo’s power will be the difference in the standup. His range management and offensive wrestling will also continue to give him the advantage in the grappling realm. Take Figueiredo at +100 to close the book on this long standing rivalry and welcome a newcomer in his next title defense.
