Why Bet The Guardians:
✅ The Guardians are sending Triston McKenzie to the mound in this game, which has been good for them of late. McKenzie has not allowed more than three earned runs in an appearance since August 2, going over two months without giving up 4+ runs. He is top-20 in ERA, WHIP, and strikeouts, and will put forth another solid performance to get the Guardians over the finish line.

✅ The Rays, meanwhile, are starting Tyler Glasnow for this elimination game. That is normally good news for the Rays. However, he has pitched just 6.2 innings this season as he has battled back from Tommy John surgery. While he is more than capable of pitching at a high level in just his third game of the season, but expecting him to go deep into this game and completely shut the Guardians down is not worth playing at this price.
✅ Tampa Bay’s bats really wilted against the Guardians. There were three hits for the team overall in Game 1, but the top-three in the Rays lineup went a combined 0-12 and did not reach base in any way. Expect the Guardians arms to continue to get the better of Diaz, Franco, and Arozarena en route to the second round.
Tampa Bay Rays
The Tampa Bay Rays go into Rays vs Guardians Game 2 having played a very disappointing game to open this series. They got three hits and were held to just one run against the Guardians on Friday afternoon, relinquishing their 1-0 lead by allowing a two-run home run by Jose Ramirez in the bottom of the sixth inning. Now, the Rays face elimination on Saturday and will hope that Tyler Glasnow can save them from it.
Glasnow was held out for most of this season while recovering from surgery, returning for just under seven innings in two outings in September. Regardless of what the Rays have said about his availability, we have no idea how far he can go in this contest. But no matter who is on the mound for the Rays, their offense needs to score more than one run to save their season.
Cleveland Guardians
The Cleveland Guardians got a win at home to start this series against the Tampa Bay Rays, answering a solo home run from Jose Siri in the top of the sixth with a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning. The pitching from the Guardians was incredible, and it needed to be to snap the team’s eight-game playoff losing streak. Now the Guardians will look for a second straight win to send the Rays home and move onto the next round.
Triston McKenzie will get the start for the Guardians in this contest, as he will look to extend a streak of recent success. McKenzie has not lost a decision since the end of August, and the Guardians have won five of the last six games in which McKenzie has pitched. Another quality start from McKenzie could be enough to end this Wild Card series.
