The first game of the ALDS between the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros was a memorable one to say the least. The Mariners got out to a huge lead, but the Astros staged a huge comeback, which was punctuated by a three-run walk-off home run by Yordan Alvarez. In Game 2, the Mariners will look to avoid an 0-2 deficit in this best-of-five series, while the Astros look to take advantage of the momentum from Game 1. This game will be played at Minute Maid Park at 3:37 PM ET on Thursday, October 13, 2022.
Why Bet The Mariners:
✅ The starting pitching situation in this game benefits the Seattle Mariners. Framber Valdez is an excellent starter for the Astros, but Luis Castillo was incredible in Game 1 against the Blue Jays in the Wild Card round. He has already won a start on the road in this postseason, and will do so again here against the number two starter for the Astros.

✅ Seattle’s bats have been excellent in their last two games, averaging 8.5 runs per game over their last two outings. The Mariners have not shrunk offensively under the bright lights of the postseason, despite their relative lack of experience compared to their opponents so far. At a plus price, backing the red-hot Seattle offense is worth backing.
✅ Valdez has not been great against the Mariners so far this season. He has two starts against them this year, and has given up three runs in each of them. In a game where runs could be at a premium, the Mariners will continue their success against Valdez to even this series.
Seattle Mariners
The Seattle Mariners went into the eighth inning against the Houston Astros with a four-run lead in Game 1 of the ALDS on Tuesday. Houston cut that lead in half in the bottom of the eighth, then scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to win the game. As a result of that blown lead, the Mariners are facing what is essentially a must-win game to avoid going behind by two games in this best-of-five series.
Fortunately for the Mariners, they send Luis Castillo to the mound for this contest, which they hope goes as well as it did against the Blue Jays on Friday. Castillo threw 7.1 innings of shutout ball on Friday, propelling the Mariners to a 4-0 win in that contest. Scoreless innings could be tougher to come by against a team with the lineup and experience of the Astros, but Castillo cannot afford anything less than a spectacular outing here.
Houston Astros
The Houston Astros were in grave danger of giving up home field advantage in the ALDS on Tuesday. But a miracle comeback in the final two innings of Game 1 against the Mariners put them ahead after the series opener. With momentum on their side after that comeback, the Astros will look for a better start to Game 2 in order to avoid the need for similar heroics on Thursday.
Framber Valdez will start for the Astros in this contest, after a regular season where he went 17-6 with a 2.82 ERA. Valdez had his share of struggles against the Mariners this season, but with Houston overcoming a poor start from Justin Verlander to win Game 1, the Astros will feel confident in their ability to win this contest even if Valdez gets off to a rough start.
