Mets vs Cubs Betting Pick
This game will be played at Wrigley Field at 8:05 PM ET on Thursday, July 14, 2022.
Why Bet The Mets:
✅ Carlos Carrasco will get the ball for the Mets. The veteran righty had an awful June (6.37 ERA and 5.33 FIP), but he’s turned the corner, allowing just three runs over his previous two starts and 11.1 frames of work. Carrasco leans on his off-speed pitches and ranks in the 97th percentile in chase rate, while the Cubs own the 11th-worst strikeout percentage in the majors.
✅ The Cubs had the seventh-highest OPS in baseball in June (.765). They’ve slowed down in the last couple of weeks, slashing just .211/.289/.370 across 365 at-bats. The Mets, on the other side, recorded a poor .670 OPS in June, but they are hitting a decent .237/.311/.412 with 18 home runs across 451 at-bats in July.

✅ The Cubs’ bullpen holds a strong 2.79 ERA in July, but it’s been inconsistent and already recorded five losses this month. On the other side, the Mets’ bullpen has two losses, four saves, and a sharp 2.48 ERA in July.
New York Mets
The Mets outlasted the Braves 7-3 on Wednesday afternoon to clinch a three-game series at Truist Park in Atlanta. They improved to 55-34 on the season, topping the NL East two and a half games ahead of the Braves. The Mets have won three of their previous four series and eight of their last 13 games at any location.
Carlos Carrasco (9-4; 4.55 ERA) snapped his two-game skid on July 3, throwing 5.2 innings of a one-run ball in a 4-1 win to the Texas Rangers. Last Saturday, he tossed 5.2 frames in a no-decision against the Miami Marlins, yielding a couple of runs on seven hits and striking out five.
Chicago Cubs
Wednesday night’s games have been excluded from the analysis, and the 34-53 Cubs were looking to stop their five-game slide. After getting swept by the LA Dodgers in a four-game road set, Chicago suffered a 4-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles in the opener of a two-game interleague set at home last Tuesday.
Keegan Thompson (7-3; 3.04 ERA) will take the hill Thursday. The 27-year-old righty pitched 5.2 frames of a one-run ball in a 4-3 defeat at the Dodgers last Friday but didn’t factor into the decision. Thompson is 1-3 with a 4.55 ERA in his last seven starts and 31.2 innings pitched.
