Why Bet on the Pirates:
✅ Tony Gonsolin is making his first start of the season after suffering an ankle injury in spring training. While he was excellent last year for the Dodgers, we don’t know what we are going to get from him in this contest.
✅ Max Muncy is still out for the Dodgers as he is on paternity leave, which will cause issues for a Dodgers lineup that will need to score to provide Gonsolin with much-needed run support in his return.
✅ Pittsburgh is 7-4 at home so far this season despite last night’s loss.

Los Angeles Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers stole a win late against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night, getting a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to go ahead 8-7, where they stayed for good. On Wednesday, they will look for a second straight win against the Pirates, and will hope that Tony Gonsolin can get off to a strong start as he makes his season debut.
Last season, Gonsolin went 16-1 with a 2.14 ERA, making him one of the most effective pitchers in all of baseball. It will be interesting to see what he has so early in the season, especially coming off of an injury, as his early season performance level could change the trajectory of the Dodgers’ season one way or the other.
Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates will feel disappointed that they could not close out the LA Dodgers on Tuesday night. But entering Wednesday with a 16-8 record, the Pirates know that they have nothing to complain about as one of the pleasant surprises of the league so far this year.
On Wednesday, the Pirates send Roansy Contreras to the mound, who is 2-1 early in the year despite a 4.57 ERA. Even with Max Muncy out of the lineup on the Dodgers’ paternity list, the Los Angeles lineup still has a ton of weapons, including Mookie Betts to worry about. Contreras needs to set the tone early to give his team a chance to take an early lead against a rusty Gonsolin.
