Game two of a key three game series is set for Wednesday, August 25, 2021, when the Los Angeles Dodgers (79-47, 37-26 away) visit the San Diego Padres (68-59, 41-27 home). These teams are heading in different directions but one good series for San Diego could be the confidence they need for the stretch run. This game will air live on ESPN at 10:00 p.m. EST.
Los Angeles is keeping the pressure on the San Francisco Giants as the Dodgers are just 2.5 games back of the NL West leaders. The Dodgers will comfortably make the playoffs as they currently occupy the first Wild Card spot and are 11.5 games ahead of the San Diego Padres, who are currently the first team out. Los Angeles has won 10 of their last 11 games.
San Diego has lost 10 of their last 12 games and now sit 14 games back of the San Francisco Giants in the NL West. The Padres are still fighting for the playoffs as they are just one game back of the Cincinnati Reds for the second Wild Card spot. It is a big two weeks for San Diego leading up to Labor Day.
Below is my pick for this big NL West series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres. All odds are from BetMGM Sportsbook.
Los Angeles Dodgers (-134) at San Diego Padres (+114): O/U 8.0 (-105/-114)
Pitching Matchup: Walker Buehler (13-2, 2.11 ERA, 0.93 WHIP) vs Blake Snell (6-5, 4.82 ERA, 1.52 WHIP)
Walker Buehler may be on his way to a Cy Young season, and he will look to continue his team long dominance. Buehler has been brilliant all season long, but he has really been on a tear lately as he has not given up more than two earned runs in a start since July 5th, a span of eight starts. The righty has allowed just five runs and 19 hits in 26.2 innings pitched in August.
Blake Snell has been pitching better recently, but his personal success has not been intertwined with team success. Snell has not allowed more than three earned runs in his last four starts, but San Diego has only gone 2-2 in those starts. The formed Cy Young pitcher is having a first season to forget in Southern California.

Series Recap:
The series opener between these two teams saw Los Angeles cruising to a 5-2 victory. Los Angeles led 5-0 heading into the 8th inning before Jurickson Profar hit a two-run bomb to keep things interesting. No batter on either team had more than one hit, but the Dodgers won’t mind one bit. Julio Urias improved his record to 14-3 after allowing just one hit in five innings.
