The Houston Astros may have been down 2-0, as the series headed to Washington, but the entire team kept saying they were not worried and that has been proven correct as the Astros have gone into Washington and taken the first two games to level the 2019 World Series at 2-2.
The Astros were led by rookie pitcher Jose Urquidy who pitched five shutout innings allowing just two hits and striking out four Nationals. Manger AJ Hinch did not now want the rookie to face the Washington lineup a third time, so Urquidy left after throwing just 67 pitches in those five innings. The Astros bullpen pitched the final four innings allowing just two hits, one run and striking out four Nationals. Houston’s offense started off strong, as well, as Alex Bregman got thing started in the top of the 1st with a RBI single and Yuli Gurriel tacked on to that lead with an infield single to score Michael Brantley. Robinson Chirinos hit a solo home run for the second day in a row, in the 4th inning, and Alex Bregman really put the game away with a Grand Slam in the top of the 7th inning.
After the Astros win on Saturday the current odds for the World Series winner is the Houston Astros at -270 and the Washington Nationals at +215. For the series correct score there is some interesting value here still as the Houston Astros at 4-2 is +115, Astros 4-3 is +230, Washington 4-2 is +600 and Washing 4-3 is +370.
This game is now best of three and this series has been everything fans wanted it to be to the end the 2019 Major League Baseball season.
Below is my pick for Game Five of the 2019 World Series. All lines are from FanDuel Sportsbook.
(Tied 2-2): Houston Astros (-152) at Washington Nationals (+132): O/U 7 runs (-106/-116)
The Houston Astros will turn to Cy Young candidate Gerrit Cole who pitched Game One of the World Series and was roughed up in a loss. Cole had given up one run in his previous 22.2 innings pitched, but the Nationals were able to tag the righty for five runs, on eight hits, in seven innings pitched. Amazingly, Cole has not had back-to-back bad starts all of 2019, so Houston should expect a bounce back game from their star ace Sunday night.
Speaking of star aces, Max Scherzer will be grabbing the ball for the Washington Nationals Sunday looking to get the win over Cole once again. Scherzer also started Game One of the World Series and the righty pitched five innings allowing five hits, two runs and striking out seven Astros. Scherzer has really turned it on since a rough Wild Card game and will look to continue that momentum and give Washington a 3-2 series lead.
Game Five Pitching Matchup: Gerrit Cole (1.82 ERA in 29.2 playoff innings) vs Max Scherzer (2.16 ERA in 25.0 playoff innings)
Game Five Prediction: This is going to be a great game and I like Washington to take a 3-2 series lead heading back to Houston. Back the Nationals at +132.
MLB Playoffs Record: 20-13
