Betting Odds: Chicago+150/Los Angeles-175

Total O/U: 8

After dropping the first two games of the series, the Chicago Cubs (39-31) will be looking for a series split with the Los Angeles Dodgers (47-24). Trying to even the series for the Cubs will be pitcher Jose Quintana (4-6 3.89 ERA). The Cubs will try to get the win against the early N.L. Cy Young leader in Dodgers’ pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu (9-1 1.36 ERA).

Quintana has four outings this year (three starts and one relief appearance) where he hasn’t allowed a single earned run. Outside of those four appearances, Quintana’s starts haven’t been that great. He has allowed at least three earned runs or more in seven starts, including a three-inning game against the Brewers where allowed eight earned runs and three home runs. His WHIP is a little high at 1.31 and he has 69 strikeouts to go along with 24 walks on the season.

Ryu has been the best pitcher in baseball so far this season. He leads the Majors in ERA and walks per nine and is second in WHIP (0.80) and tied third in wins. In his last eight starts, Ryu has pitched a total of 58 ⅔ innings and has only allowed four earned runs, one home run, and three walks.

The Cubs won yesterday’s game 2-1. We could see a similar score again today, although I think the Dodgers will be on the winning side. Ryu has yet to allow more than two earned runs in a start this season and I think he continues that trend today. The Dodgers should be able to get more than two runs off of Quintana and the Cubs bullpen. I like the Dodgers to get the win here and take three out of four games in this series. Ryu has another gem and the Dodgers offense rebounds after a rough game last night.
