Texas A&M vs Alabama Betting Preview
The newest SEC rivalry is set to be played Saturday night when the Texas A&M Aggies (3-2, 1-1 in SEC) visit the Alabama Crimson Tide (5-0, 2-0). Texas A&M is having yet another disappointing season under Jimbo, while Alabama may be without their star QB. This game will air live on CBS. BetMGM Sportsbook has the opening line at Alabama -24.5 and the over at 51.5 points scored.
Through five games, Texas A&M is scoring 21.8 points per game and are gaining 334.4 yards per game, 205.4 through the air and 129.0 on the ground. Defensively, the Aggies are averaging 17.8 points against, and 358.6 yards allowed, 188.4 passing and 170.2 rushing.
After five games, Alabama is scoring 48.4 points per game and are gaining 525.0 yards per game, 273.6 through the air and 251.4 on the ground. Defensively, the Crimson Tide are averaging just 11.0 points against, and 236.4 yards allowed, 149.0 passing and 87.4 rushing.
Texas A&M vs Alabama Prediction
Last time out, Texas A&M visited the Mississippi State Bulldogs and left with a disappointing 42-24 defeat. Nothing happened in the first quarter, but Mississippi State woke up and took a 14-0 lead into the half. Mississippi State led 21-10 after the third and then won the fourth quarter 21-14 to secure the win over Texas A&M. Two A&M QBs combined to go 25/39 for 252 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions, and added one touchdown on the ground. Texas A&M ran the ball 31 times for 136 yards, a 4.4 average, and two touchdowns in the loss. Defensively, the Aggies allowed 473 total yards and recovered one Mississippi State fumble.
Alabama visited #20 Arkansas and left with an impressive 49-26 win. Alabama jumped out to a 28-0 first half lead, and led 28-7 at the half, but Arkansas clawed their way back into the game and trailed just 28-23 entering the fourth quarter. The Crimson Tide shut down any comeback hopes by outscored Arkansas 21-3 in the fourth quarter. The story of this game was Bryce Young leaving with an injury, but backup QB Jalen Milroe came in and went 4/9 for 65 yards, one touchdown, zero interception, and added 91 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Alabama ran the ball 42 times for 317 yards, a 7.5 average, and five (!) touchdowns in the win. Defensively, the Crimson Tide allowed 377 total yards and recovered one Arkansas fumble.
Series History: Texas A&M won last season’s matchup, 41-38, but Alabama still leads the all-time series 11-3.
Pick: I don’t think Texas A&M (Jimbo) is any good, but with the uncertainty at QB I am going to take the Aggies to cover the spread.
