Friday night has brought College Football fans some of the best games of the 2019 season and has had at least one great game for each of the last seven weeks, but that will end this Friday night. ESPN2 heads to East Hartford, Connecticut for an American Athletic Conference battle between 6-1 Navy and 2-6 UCONN.
Navy is firmly in the AAC West race as the Midshipmen are currently 4-1 in conference play and trail unbeaten, and 15th ranked, SMU by one game. Navy have a non-conference game next week at #16 Notre Dame and then have their big battle at home against SMU. UCONN are looking for their first conference win since October 21, 2017 when they knocked off Tulsa 20-14.
Below is my pick for Navy at UConn. All lines are from the William Hill Sportsbook.
Navy Midshipmen (-27.5) at Connecticut Huskies: O/U 55 points (-110/-110)
The Navy Midshipmen are running high on confidence at the moment having won four straight games and coming off a 41-38 win over Tulane thanks to a game winning field goal from Freshman Bijan Nichols. Navy’s lone loss this season was to Memphis, who currently sit at 3-1 in the American Athletic Conference, so the Midshipmen need to continue winning to hold off the Tigers. The Midshipmen have put up 34 or more points in all six wins this season and scored just 23 in their lone loss. Navy is 5-2 ATS and the over has hit in four of their seven games in 2019.
The University of Connecticut finally notched their first win over a FBS team thanks to a 56-35 win over 1-7 Massachusetts last weekend. UConn was on a six game losing streak since winning their season opener against FCS squad Wagner. During their six game losing streak, the Huskies gave up 24 or more points to all six opponents, and gave up 48+ three times, and failed to score more than 23 points on offense. UConn is always bad, as of late, but this season may be their worst team of the bunch. The Huskies are 4-4 ATS and the under has hit in five of their eight games this season.
Series History: Navy leads the all-time series 8-1 and have won the last three meetings between these two schools.
Game Prediction: During their six game losing streak UCONN was outscored by 25.5 points per game and Navy is dominating the bad teams on their schedule this year, so I am backing Navy -27.5 Friday night.
