Key Storylines
There is a clear talent and roster gap between these two teams. Miami is in the playoff hunt and has a complete team with an explosive offense, stout defense, and strong special teams. The only thing that has been missing for Miami has been consistency. They have had a couple of ugly showings with poor defending and turnovers giving them two losses already.
Virginia Tech has had a rough go all season and has not shown the ability to rise to this level of competition. But we have already seen Miami get upset on the road this season and we could very well see it again. The mobility of Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones could help the Hokies to hang around in this matchup.
For Miami, this game is about style points along with just getting the win. A dominant performance could help their College Football Playoff case. But a loss, or even a close game, could cast more doubt on their candidacy for the playoff.
Quarterback Play
Miami: Carson Beck has been very good for the most part this season. He’s thrown for over 2,400 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. His most recent outing against NC State saw him play particularly well. He completed 21 of 27 passes for 291 yards and three touchdowns. He will try to avoid turning the ball over to keep the Hurricanes moving in the right direction throughout this contest.
Virginia Tech: The Hokies’ offense has been inconsistent. Quarterback Kyron Drones is very good as a runner. But he has been inconsistent through the air and that has hurt the chances of the Hokies to live up to their full potential on offense.
Betting Trends

Final Thoughts
Miami should be able to win this game on the road over Virginia Tech. But I’m going ot take the points with Virginia Tech here. I’m just not sold on Miami to win convincingly on the road regularly based on what we’ve seen from them. I’ll bank on Kyron Drones to move the ball with his legs effectively enough to keep this contest within a couple of touchdowns.
