The “Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry” is the marquee game of Week 12 as the #4 Georgia Bulldogs head over to Alabama to take on the #12 Auburn Tigers. These two teams first met back in 1892, a game Auburn won 10-0, and Saturday will be the 124th meeting between the two schools.
The Georgia Bulldogs found themselves ranked #4 in the most recent College Football Playoff rankings and find themselves back in the playoff bracket after being out the first week the rankings were released. Georgia currently lead the SEC – East at 5-1 and have a half game lead, plus the head to head, over second place Florida. Georgia have not missed a bowl game since 1996 and will look to compete in the College Football Playoff for the second time in three seasons. The Auburn Tigers enter play at 4-2 in the SEC – West and trail first place LSU by one and a half games and lost the head to head. Auburn will be going bowling for the seventh straight season.
Below is my pick for the #4 Georgia Bulldogs at the #12 Auburn Tigers. All lines are from the DraftKings Sportsbook.
#4 Georgia Bulldogs (-2.5) at #12 Auburn Tigers: O/U 40.5 points (-115/-105)
The Georgia defense came to play last week as the Bulldogs hosted a very injured Missouri Tiger team and walked away with a 27-0 victory. Since their surprising 20-17 home loss to South Carolina, Georgia has won three games in a row, pitched two shutouts and knocked off then #6 Florida. Georgia is 2-0 against ranked teams this season as they have that win over Florida and also beat then #7 Notre Dame 23-17 earlier in the season. The Bulldogs are 5-4 against the spread and the under has hit in seven of their nine games this season.
The Auburn Tigers continued their recent up and down play with a 20-14 win over Ole Miss last week. The Tigers couldn’t score in the first or fourth quarter, but 20 points in between was enough to beat a bad Mississippi team. Auburn has faced four ranked teams this season and have gone 2-2, with wins over then #11 Oregon and at then #17 Texas A&M, and losses at then #10 Florida and then #2 LSU. The Tigers are 7-2 against the spread and the under has hit in five of their nine games this season.
Series History: Georgia has won the last two games between these two and now leads the all-time series 59-56-8.
Football Pick: I like Georgia to win this one by at least a field goal, so I am backing the Bulldogs -2.5 Saturday.
