The other Tuesday MACtion game, between Western Michigan and Ohio, is a really good game on paper, but the other Tuesday night game is not exactly an eye catcher. The 4-5 Eastern Michigan Eagles travel to Ohio to take on the 0-9 Akron Zips.
Eastern Michigan enter play Tuesday with a 4-5 overall record and a 1-4 conference record. The Eagles need to win at least two of their final three games to get to a bowl for the second consecutive season. Akron is currently 0-9 overall, and 0-5 in conference, and are just trying to finish this season with some type of positive momentum. The Zips will not go bowling for the second consecutive season.
Below is my pick for the Eastern Michigan Eagles at the Akron Zips. All lines are from the DraftKings Sportsbook.
Eastern Michigan Eagles (-17) at Akron Zips: O/U 50.5 points (-110/-110)
The Eastern Michigan Eagles terrible form since entering conference play continued two weeks ago as they were dominated by Buffalo and ended up falling 43-14. The Bulls jumped out to a 29-7 halftime lead and never looked back and they shutout the Eagles, in the second half, until the very last minute. Eastern Michigan started the season off well, and even got a road win over the all of the sudden good Illinois Fighting Illini, but it has all fallen apart since the calendar turned to October. The Eagles only win was against West leading Western Michigan, but they have fallen to Central Michigan, Ball State, Toledo and Buffalo. EMU is 3-6 against the spread and the over has hit in five of their nine games.
The winless, and hopeless, Akron Zips are not only looking for their first win this season, but are also looking to score their first touchdown since September 28th, a span of four games. Akron have lost to some really bad teams this season, including 1-9 Massachusetts, and the Zips certainly lead the race as the worst team in Division 1 football this season. The offense averages just 254.2 yards per game, just 51.3 on the ground, and are averaging a whopping 13.1 points scored per game. Akron is 0-9 against the spread and the under has hit in five of their nine games.
Series History: Akron now leads the all-time series 19-13 after Eastern Michigan came away with a 27-7 win last season.
Game Prediction: I don’t know how anyone can back Akron at this point. I’m taking Eastern Michigan -17 in this one.
