Key Storylines
The stakes are significant in this Big 12 matchup. BYU is undefeated at 8-0 and sitting at the top of the Big 12 standings. Texas Tech is 8-1 and viewed as the team to beat at home in this game. The winner of this game will control its own destiny to appear in the Big 12 title game and to make the College Football Playoff. Dealing with the pressure of that situation will be key for both of these teams as they look to keep their top 10 ranking.
BYU has escaped some close calls to keep their zero in the loss column so far this season. They beat Colorado by a field goal, won a double overtime game over Arizona, and won the Holy War over Utah by three points as well. The Cougars have shown their mettle in tight games this season but this could be the toughest game they have faced this season on the road against another elite team.
All of Texas Tech’s wins this season have come by double-digits. Their only loss of the year was a slip-up on the road against an Arizona State team that was ranked going into the season. The Red Raiders have won two games in a row since that loss and they will try to avoid a second Big 12 loss in this game.
Quarterback Play
BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier has stepped in and performed admirably for the Cougars. He has thrown for 1,693 yards, 11 touchdowns, and only three interceptions with a QBR of 78.9. Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton has put up 1,750 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and four interceptions with a QBR of 69.1. Morton has the experience edge here but these quarterbacks are pretty even statistically.

Final Thoughts
Texas Tech should be able to get the win at home in this game to give their College Football Playoff hopes a massive boost. But I think that this game is going to be close to landing right on the point spread. Instead of playing the point spread, I’ll take the over, as both quarterbacks should put forth a respectable performance in this one.
