Why Bet On Davidson:
✅ Michigan State has been plagued by inconsistency all season long. While they certainly have Davidson beat in the reputation department, the Spartans have not proven that they are the team to beat in this matchup at all. Davidson should be able to grind them out the way Richmond did Iowa.
✅ Foster Loyer is exactly the kind of player needed for a mid-major team to beat a power conference foe. Loyer is a steadying presence for Davidson, scoring over 16 points per game and shooting over 90% from the free throw line. He will factor heavily into the end of this game and help Davidson execute the way they need to in order to win.

✅ Davidson’s loss to Richmond at the end of the Atlantic 10 tournament has aged nicely thanks to Richmond beating Iowa in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. That seemed like a bad loss at the time, but Richmond is clearly just heating up at the right time, and Davidson will get back on track against a hot and cold Spartans team.
Davidson Wildcats
Davidson had a disappointing end to its Atlantic 10 campaign, losing in the final of the Atlantic 10 tournament to Richmond. But the Wildcats still earned a 10-seed as an at-large team, and will look to justify that selection with a win over Michigan State here. For them to do that, the Wildcats will need to continue to showcase the determination they have showcased all season long.
This season, Davidson has beaten several quality squads, including Alabama, Richmond and St. Bonaventure. They should be able to go toe to toe with Michigan State, not fearing the reputation of Tom Izzo’s team. But their execution will determine how this game goes even if Davidson is full of confidence.
Michigan State Spartans
Michigan State fell in the Big Ten tournament to Purdue in the semifinals, falling after winning a game in each of the two days prior to that. The Spartans went just 11-9 in Big Ten play this season, and will look to take advantage of facing a smaller conference foe here. In order to do that, though, someone will need to step up for the Spartans.
At this point in the season, nobody on Michigan State scores 12 points per game. They have just one double figure scorer in Gabe Brown, which speaks both to the balance of this Michigan State team but also to the lack of a real closer when things are tight. That will be a concern here against a Davidson team that has a closer in Foster Loyer.
