Roughriders vs Elks Betting Preview
Despite being stuck in fourth place in the West, the Roughriders aren’t looking too bad for the playoffs thanks to the CFL’s crossover rule, which allows the fourth-place team in one division to take the spot of the third-place team in the opposite division if they have a better record. That’s what’s shaping up right now, as the Roughriders are 4-4 and the two teams tied for second in the East are both 2-6.

That makes this one a pretty big game for the Roughriders, although at 2-6 a win by the Elks will move them to within a game of Saskatchewan in the standings. But winning at home hasn’t been easy for Edmonton, who have lost every home contest last season and so far this year.
The Roughriders have the statistical advantage across the board, as they have better numbers offensively and defensively than the Elks, but you have to take into account the level of competition. Saskatchewan has just one game against the Big 3 (Winnipeg, Calgary, British Columbia), while Edmonton has played five games against those opponents and have been thumped more often than not.
Saskatchewan is coming off a bye week and will look to get the passing game going, which hasn’t really taken off with Cody Fajardo yet. Fajardo has thrown nine touchdowns and been picked off six times. Taylor Cornelius gets the start for Edmonton and the former Oklahoma State Cowboy has labored a bit so far this season, with two TDs and three interceptions in three games.

Roughriders vs Elks Pick & Prediction
The Roughriders rallied for a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns when these two teams met here in Week 2, as the Roughriders won 26-16. But that was with quarterback Nick Arbuckle for the Elks and he’s injured, as is second-string Tre Ford. Cornelius has some talent and should find the Roughrider defense a little more appealing than British Columbia’s.
Edmonton’s struggles at home are well-documented by now but just a gut feeling they may make a game out of this one.
